About Us

Family

Since moving to Taiwan God has blessed us with 4 sweet daughters.  School and homework keeps them busy most of the time and they look forward to their free time.  Some of their favorite things to do are riding bikes at a park, playing in the waves at the ocean, creating artistic masterpieces, singing and dancing.  Our children are a blessing to our ministry.  They make us real and approachable to others.  Raising a family is an adventure no matter where you live.

Team

We are not working alone, but are part of a dynamic and diverse team.  Our missionary teammates in Taiwan help, encourage, and hold us accountable. Life and ministry would be much harder without them! We are also part of Team Expansion, a mission agency that gives help and guidance, and prays for us. There are many people in the United States and other countries who bless us financially. People across the world pray for us and the work. Even the Taiwanese Christians are part of our greater team, working toward the same goal, helping us, inspiring us, and praying for us. Jesus said he will never leave us nor forsake us.  We can see this as we count all the people that play a part in this ministry!

History

Both of us were brought up in families who loved the Lord, loved each other, and loved those around them.  Allen was born and raised on the mission field in Belgium and South Africa.  Cherry was born and raised in rural Iowa.  We both heard God's call to missions before we even met.  Our hearts were hurting for those who had not yet heard the good news of Jesus.  We had been loved so well, and we felt convicted that we shouldn't keep it to ourselves but had a responsibility to give it away.

We first met at Nationwide Youth Roundup in the mountains of Colorado and were married 2 years later.  Both of us received a Bachelor of Arts with an emphasis in missions from Central Christian College of the Bible in Moberly, MO.  When the time was right, God opened a door to come to Taiwan so we joined Team Expansion and went through a year of training and fundraising.

God continued to faithfully confirm that this was his will for us and we moved to Taiwan in October 2004, sight unseen.  We lived in Taipei for 6 1/2 years where we learned Mandarin, Taiwan culture, and served alongside experienced missionaries with an existing church.  In 2011 we moved to Fengyuan, a district of Taichung City, and began a new work.

Through the years and changes, God's faithfulness remains and so does our passion for reaching the lost.  We are excited about the ministry here, believing that God has some amazing plans in store.  He has placed a few special verses on our heart and they have been helping remind us to make every moment count.

1 Timothy 1:7 “For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.”

Galatians 5:6 “The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love.”

Nehemiah 8:10 “…the joy of the LORD is your strength.”

Vision

Our vision is to transform Taiwan communities by making disciples that make disciples.  We are committed to prayerfully seek those that God will entrust to us, and faithfully teach them to obediently follow Christ and lead others to do the same. The leaders that we disciple will move on to lead other groups and gatherings, and eventually multiply into a disciple-making movement.  If we start by spurring on a disciple-making movement this will naturally become a church planting movement, and these churches will be filled with committed Christians who are obedient to all of Jesus’s commands.

Matthew 28:19 "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

2 Timothy 2:2 "...and what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men who will be able to teach others also."

Acts 2:42 "And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers."

Matthew 22: 36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?”  And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.  This is the great and first commandment.  And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself."
