Ministry

Prayer

“The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.” -James 5:16
“Again I say to you, that if two of you agree on earth about anything that they may ask, it shall be done for them by My Father who is in heaven. For where two or three have gathered together in My name, I am there in their midst.” -Matthew 18:19-20
We believe strongly in the power of praying to our Creator. Prayer is one of our core passions and is a crucial part of what we do every day. We pray with team members regularly and also go on prayer walks so that we can pray for communities however the Lord directs.

School English Clubs

God has blessed us with the opportunity to have English clubs and classes in several local schools including elementary, junior high, and high schools. These clubs allow us to bless our community, get to know students and teachers, and plant God's word into their hearts. They are very much like a youth group or children's church. We use Bible-based English lessons, the videos we have produced, games, activities, and even singing. Though we are there for English, we have many opportunities to share God’s word and our testimonies with these students.

Sports and English Camp

Sports and English Camp began as a way for teens in Taiwan to come together to make friends, have some fun, be encouraged, and leave with a deeper understanding of God. Since the first camp in 2006, more than 1,400 Taiwanese middle and high school teens have benefited from this unique experience. Over the years, the camp has adapted and evolved, while keeping its core purpose of loving and engaging teens. The camp has expanded, with more students, more Taiwanese staff, and more teams from the United States who come to help. The campers are given more leadership opportunities during and after camp, and everyone can stay connected through a website and Facebook page. As the camp has changed over the years, it has always been a place students will be encouraged, loved, and given many opportunities to grow and be challenged.

Personal Evangelism

Our weekly schedule involves calling on and keeping in touch with people who we feel God has placed in our lives for a purpose.  Practicing hospitality is also important to us.  Whether we are out and about or at home, we are challenged to be a living testimony of God's love.  We enjoy helping with English homework, guitar, or piano, offering encouragement, and simply sharing snacks, or a meal with others.  We feel responsible to make our home reflect the light of the Lord and be a warm and welcoming place.

Discovery English Studio

In 2013 we began working with a local educator to create Discovery English Studio, Bible-based English videos for Taiwan’s digital learning platform. It has been a journey of trial and error and learning. We have completed 2 video series (39 videos) and are working toward producing 2 more series with 80 videos in total. These videos are currently available to 150,000 students through an educational tablet computer program.  Click the banner below to see the videos on our Youtube channel.

Simple Church

Our team currently has multiple house churches in Taichung. These meetings include the Biblical elements of praise, teaching, prayer, and communion.  Keeping things simple means that these churches are more easily reproduced. Our goal is to disciple leaders and help them start their own simple churches. We pray that focusing on discipleship will lead to a movement of disciples being made and churches being planted.  And these churches will be filled with committed Christians who are obedient to all of Jesus’s commands!

Discipleship

Discipleship meetings are an important part of our ministry.  We meet weekly with people who are just starting out in their faith, and also with Christians who desire to go deeper in their faith.  The setting is different in each situation.  One such small gathering happens after Allen teaches a guitar lesson, another takes place during a lunch break, still another in our home over a cup of tea.  Some meetings are one-on-one and others are with a small group.  They all look a little different but have the same goal, to help people become disciples of Christ.  We use Bible study, accountability, and prayer to challenge each other to obedience and to keeping ourselves pure.  We pray that the time invested in these potential leaders will help equip them to lead their own families and communities to Christ.
